Truck loses cargo of concrete slabs

On the 17th of January 2024, a truck transporting concrete slabs experienced an unfortunate incident on the Burg. Bechtweg in Tilburg. Several concrete slabs were lost during the turn onto the N261, causing them to end up on both the bicycle path and the carriageway.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident; however, the potential consequences could have been catastrophic.

No one was injured

The concrete slabs suffered significant damage due to their fall. The company responsible for transporting the slabs claimed that they had followed all necessary guidelines to secure the load properly. They attributed the incident to ice present between the slabs and/or on the truck, which caused them to slide off during the turn. To prevent any further accidents, salt was immediately spread by the company.

Clearing loading area is essential!

As LoadLok, a leader in load securing solutions, we firmly believe that if a cargo is properly secured, it should never fall off a truck regardless. Ensuring that the loading area is free from dirt, oil, grease, AND ice (see our blog: Increase friction between surface and cargo) is one of the fundamental steps in effective load securing processes. The friction between the cargo and loading area should be maximized without compromising safety measures. Even with friction materials, inadequate cleaning of the loading area can render them ineffective.

In this particular incident, there were no cyclists present on the bicycle path at that time. However, it serves as a reminder of how crucial it is for professionals in the transport industry to prioritize proper load securing practices to avoid potential accidents and injuries.

Prioritize safety
